The American Cancer Society is a volunteer advocacy organization that works to eliminate cancer through prevention, lifesaving treatment, and research, education, and direct service. Their 24-hour hotline provides prerecorded information on a range of topics.

A free service provided by the National Cancer Institute, the Cancer Information Service is a public hotline to interpret and explain cancer research findings in clear and understandable language. The Komen Foundation operates a toll-free hotline staffed by trained volunteers whose lives have been affected by breast cancer. These volunteers have the latest information on breast health, and can offer accurate information on breast health and breast cancer. The hotline is open Monday through Friday 9 am to 4:30 pm, CT.

Y-ME's aim is to increase breast cancer awareness and ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone by providing information, empowerment and peer support. The group's 24-hour hotline is staffed by breast cancer survivors. Y-Me also offers a matching service that can bring a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient together with a survivor with a similar diagnostic or pathologic profile to facilitate understanding of the treatment process and to provide support.

The Mercy Foundation, provides free resource binders to women in the greater Sacramento area who have been newly diagnosed with breast cancer. It is paid for by the Mercy Cancer C.A.R.E. Program (Compassion, Access, Resources, and Education) and supported in part by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society. This binder is full of pamphlets and information including diagnosis, treatment options, nutrition, and more. I received my binder during chemo but wish I had it earlier. This is a support and activist group for young women (under age 45) living with breast cancer. The group is facilitated by Merijane Block, a 13-year survivor of breast cancer who was diagnosed when she was 38. Everyone is welcome to attend—women who are newly diagnosed, in treatment, post-treatment, long time survivors, and women with primary or metastatic cancer; also, single women, married women, young moms, straight and lesbian women. This is the only support and networking group of its kind in the Bay Area!

Camp Mak-A-Dream - Missoula, Montana
Mak-A-Dream is operated by Children's Oncology Camp Foundation and is a medically supervised, cost-free camp for children (ages 6-13), teens (ages 14-18) and young adults (ages 19-25) with cancer and their siblings (ages 6-17).
Camp Mak-A-Dream also hosts retreats for adults with cancer each fall - the Ovarian Cancer Survivor's Retreat in September and the Women's Cancer Retreat in October.

California Breast Cancer Research Program
The California Breast Cancer Research Program (CBCRP) was established pursuant to passage by the California Legislature of the 1993 Breast Cancer Act (i.e., AB 2055 (B. Friedman) [Chapter 661, Statutes of 1993] and AB 478 (B. Friedman) [AB 478, Statutes of 1993]). The program is responsible for administering funding for breast cancer research in the State of California. The mission of the CBCRP is to eliminate breast cancer by leading innovation in research, communication, and collaboration in the California scientific and lay communities.

Women of Essence is committed to increasing local and national attention on the devastating impact of breast cancer on the African-American community. AWARENESS: “Albie Aware” sounds like “I’ll be aware” and that’s the foundation's purpose: To make people aware of cancer PREVENTION methods through nutrition and exercise, to encourage self-examination and a follow-up doctor’s appointment for early DETECTION, to be aware of the diagnostic testing available to determine the best TREATMENT for breast cancer and the early detection of a recurrence, and to provide financial assistance when these tests are not covered by the insurance provider.

Serves those living with HIV or Breast Cancer in the greater Sacramento area. Breaking Barriers offers the following services to our clients: Transit Partners, Household Help, Food Delivery, Yard Work, Moving Assistance, Furniture/Clothing/Household Items requests, and our buddy/companion program One to One. In certain cases, some clients may qualify for direct emergency financial assistance (DEFA).
"Necessities Bag Sacramento is a non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization that provides mastectomy patients with the Necessities Bag, a tote filled with comfort and wound care supplies and information to aid recovery, and also provides a resource for surgeons and nurses to improve communication with patients about the challenges of breast cancer surgery." The suggested donation for a Necessities Bag is $50. However, contributions of any amount are truly appreciated. Donations are tax deductible. Shalom, Sacramento Korean American Cancer Support Group
Shalom was founded in September 2003 by a Korean-American oncology pharmacist and two breast cancer patients to help Korean-Americans in the Greater Sacramento Area understand, prevent and conquer breast cancer through education and support programs. Shalom's goal is to increase awareness of breast cancer resources and educate Korean American women about breast health and breast cancer prevention, screening, and treatment. It also aims to improve the lives of Korean American breast cancer patients, family members, caregivers, and loved ones through cancer support services. Shalom has created a Korean-language newsletter to promote breast cancer awareness and educate members of the community. They plan to distribute the newsletter to Korean churches, restaurants, markets and businesses in the Sacramento area. Shalom's bilingual help-line is(916) 879-2222.

Breast Cancer Action
Breast Cancer Action (BCA) carries the voices of people affected by breast cancer to inspire and compel the changes necessary to end the epidemic. Founded by a group of women who realized the power of community, BCA was born from a need for a grassroots organization with a unique understanding of the political, economic, and social context of breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Emergency Fund
Breast Cancer Emergency Fund (BCEF) provides short-term emergency financial assistance to low-income San Franciscans battling breast cancer. Many people with breast cancer have no health insurance and are unable to work during their illness or treatment, adding a huge financial toll to an already difficult struggle. BCEF helps clients avoid eviction or utility shut-off, improve the quality of their lives and maintain stable housing during their illness.
Carlotte Maxwell Complementary Clinic
Offers free complementary alternative medical treatments to low income women with cancer. Services include acupuncture, Chinese herbs, Western herbs, homeopathy, massage, and therapeutic imagery.
Latina Breast Cancer Agency
Women Caring for Women/Mujeres Cuidando Mujeres (MCM) is a program designed to provide culturally sensitive, language appropriate breast health and cervical cancer information to low-income, uninsured or underserved Latina women residing in San Francisco County and San Mateo County.
Shanti Lifelines Breast Cancer Services
The LifeLines Breast Cancer Program, initiated in July 2001, provides practical assistance and emotional support to underserved women and men with breast cancer. All of our services are free of charge and confidential, available to anyone living in San Francisco diagnosed with breast cancer. We can meet you at your home, at the LifeLines office, or wherever you feel most comfortable to make sure you get the services you need. (A family history of breast cancer requires that mammogram screening begin sooner.)

Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade
The mission of the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade is to raise funds and awareness for advancing access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer, with a focus on the medically underserved. From its launch in 1992 through 2005, the multi-faceted initiatives of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade have raised and returned more than $400,000,000 to the breast cancer cause worldwide. Funding is awarded to five areas: breast cancer education and awareness, screening and diagnosis, access to treatment, support services and scientific research. Avon now supports programs for breast cancer in some 50 countries around the world, with the U.S. program the largest in scope and funds raised.
Circle of Hope Lymphedema Foundation, Inc.
The Circle of Hope Lymphedema Foundation, Inc., is a Nationally recognized nonprofit organization founded in 1999 by Jeanne B. Tassis, a 23 year Breast Cancer Survivor and 21 year Lymphedema Patient. The foundation provides educational programs, professional and patient awareness and education by disseminating information about lymphedema, awareness, prevention and management and also supports research for the disease known as Lymphedema.

CureBreastCancer, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing breast health awareness and education to all women and their families. Working through the dedicated volunteers, CBC has consistently returned over 90% of all contributions to the community through its programs and services.
Dr. Ernie Bodai, CEO of CureBreastCancer, Inc, and a Kaiser Permanente Surgeon, in a continuing effort to support research, led the all-volunteer, grassroots lobbying effort to create the Breast Cancer Research Postal Stamp. The money raised from the sale of the stamp is divided between the National Institutes of Health and the Defense Department's Health Research Division, as called for by Congress.

Gynecologic Cancer Foundation
The mission of the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (GCF) is to ensure public awareness of gynecologic cancer prevention, early diagnosis and proper treatment as well as supports research and training related to gynecologic cancers.
The Feel Your Boobies Foundation was born in 2004 when a young breast cancer survivor simply designed a tee shirt for her friends. It has expanded into an international awareness campaign focused on using innovative methods for young people to talk about breast cancer. Feel Your Boobies has funky apparel and is a great way to raise awareness and support their Foundation. A non-profit 501(c)3 organization, they are funded solely through proceeds from merchandise sales and donations.
The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation are dedicated to the advancement of research of inflammatory breast cancer, leading to finding its causes and increasing the effectiveness of its treatment. The National Lymphedema Network (NLN) is an internationally recognized non-profit organization founded in 1988 by Saskia R.J. Thiadens, R.N. to provide education and guidance to lymphedema patients, health care professionals and the general public by disseminating information on the prevention and management of primary and secondary lymphedema. The NLN is supported by tax-deductible donations and is a driving force behind the movement in the U.S. to standardize quality treatment for lymphedema patients nationwide. In addition, the NLN supports research into the causes and possible alternative treatments for this often incapacitating, long-neglected condition. The mission of the NLN is to create awareness of lymphedema through education and to promote and support the availability of quality medical treatment for all individuals at risk for or affected by lymphedema.

The Wellness Community is an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing free support, education and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones. The mission of Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization is to ensure through information, empowerment and peer support that no one faces breast cancer alone.
The Young Survival Coalition (YSC) is the only international, non-profit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to the concerns and issues that are unique to young women and breast cancer. Through action, advocacy and awareness, the YSC seeks to educate the medical, research, breast cancer and legislative communities and to persuade them to address breast cancer in women 40 and under. The YSC also serves as a point of contact for young women living with breast cancer.
