A Simple Thank-You, My Friend
Into the dim lit, bare walls of my world,
You entered, bringing light and life to me,
The vivid colors, painted with a swirl
Of wit and charm, of personality,
With tender care, you added comfort, warmth,
And images that line the now bright walls.
I look upon them fondly, bringing forth
A thankfulness that you walk in these halls
With me; our friendship has become a part
Of my world now; it has its special place,
Within my being, life, and in my heart,
Your name hangs right beside your smiling face.
Rememb'ring just how drab these walls had been,
I have to thank you for the light, my friend.

Sometimes the words of another can express how we feel better than we can ourselves. I found the above poem on the internet, isn't it wonderful? I have been blessed with the most wonderful family and friends and I feel this way about all of you who were there for me. Thanks to all of you who brought food, buzzed off your hair, gave me stuffed animals, knitted me hats, sent flowers or cards, visited while I was homebound, took me to lunch, said prayers, or called just to say hi and see how I was doing. Thank you also for being there for Steve, I can only imagine how hard it was for him to watch me go through my treatment.
A very special thank you to my very supportive husband Steve who was/is there by my side every single day through every single step. You are my rock! I also want to thank you for all the help you gave me in developing this website, we make a pretty good team if I do say so myself.
To my Mom and Dad, not just for the cleaning service (although that's a great gift to give someone who's recovering from surgery or treatment). Thanks for all the time you spent with me, all of Mom's special banana bread and Dad's home improvement projects.
Robin - girlfriend what can I say? You have been there so much for me. You went bald (and I love how your hair grew back, I'm so jealous!!), and even though you moved to Santa Cruz, you still kept in touch via text messaging (we're almost as fast as the young'uns) email and phone, spent time just hanging out, juggling, or teaching me how peach cobbler boils over if you fill the pan too full.
My friend Michael. You've been a real friend, never letting a week go by without being in touch with me. You kept me connected to regular every day life, and work, and helped me feel "normal" not sick. I loved visiting Jamaica at your and Shirl's house and if I were ever to get married again (which I'm not Steve), I would ask you to be my best man. :)
A special thank you to all my Sistas from the Together in Breast Cancer (now Survivin' Sistas) online support group. I love you guys!
And last but certainly not least, to all my friends and co-workers at the California Department of Justice and other State agencies who donated leave time to me. I was the recipient of some very generous people and I want you all to know how much I appreciate it. Recovery is so much easier when you're not worried about your paycheck!
I love you all!

& KC too!
