Knock Out Breast Cancer is dedicated to the memory of Clove Gringrich
I never got a chance to actually meet Clove in person, but I knew her. When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer I immediately went online to look for a support group. I found the Together in Breast Cancer group, and I accessed the link to the members' pictures. The picture I remember most was Clove's wedding picture, bald from chemo and the greatest smile you could imagine. I showed that picture to my husband and I knew this was a group I wanted to join. Once there, Clove was always there for me (for everyone actually, but I'm telling my story). She had already gone through chemo to shrink her cancer, but our mastectomy surgeries were one week apart.
We both chose the tissue expander for our reconstruction. Another thing Clove and I had in common was the fact that we were both married to wonderful Steves, her a newlywed, me 18 years.Clove passed away on May 31, 2005. I had only known her for 4 months, yet she had such a powerful impact on my life. I miss her, I wear her name on a charm on my wrist every day, I will never forget her.
